RE: Prayer Request

	Hi Shirley,

I've been aware via Facebook that something serious was going on, and when we were at Mary Jo's, someone told me that your daughter had been in a car accident that left her in a very precarious position. Words fail us at times, and this is certainly one of those times. I have been and will continue to be in prayer for you, relying on Romans 8:26: "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words."

	In Him,

Deana is in the hospital. Went by ambulance Monday afternoon. That evening they placed a central line in her neck and an arterial line in her leg. Then around 11:00 p.m. they decided they needed to go in and put a tube through her back into her kidney to drain it. Kidney stones are blocking the kidney from emptying and they will have to be removed, but she is a ...pretty sick little gal right now and they want her to get better before they do that. We will be in the hospital until after that at least. Right now the main concern is the infection in her blood. She's been halucinating today and talking kind of goofy which they say is because of the infection. She isn't in a lot of pain though, just worn out. They had lots of trouble with her blood pressure being too low, then too high, but that has stabilized now too. Keep her in your prayers. Thanks!

Where did you eat?' 'It was a place called "home', I explained. 'Mum cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate, I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.'

But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I'd figured his system could have handled it:?

The only phone was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line.

At least, they did in the films. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or almost anything offensive.

In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons.

So much fun to see these... top class picture was MISS Betty Bee Slack, teacher. Can recognize and name so many.classmates. How crazy is that? Woodland: Virginia Stewart, kindergarten; Mrs. Perry, first; Betty Bee Slack, second; Doris Evans, third; Betty Cord, fourth; Bertha Alexander (who we saw and cared for ...for many years), fifth; and Myrtle Pellett, sixth. Wow, those WERE the Woodland days!

RE: Karen Kelly's Story!

	1. It's been 6 months since I added this. I reduced it to be 10 things instead of 25.

	2. I can't remember that much about my high school years, except my time with my HS sweetheart. My husband today, John Kelly. It was a good time for me. My high marks were in sewing, art, sports and business. Passing marks in English and Math! Where is my report card?

	3. We celebrated our 45th being sick with colds, but managed to go see "It's Complicated", very very funny movie.

	4. I love having my family home for the holidays, but glad to get back to an empty nest home. Had Christmas dinner on Christmas eve and did nothing on christmas day execpet open presents and make breakfast. Son and family, from Virgina, came home on Sunday before Christmas and left the following Monday. It was a good day and week! Hadn't cook that much since...?? can't remember when.

	5. It's a fun day when when John and I can go antiquing??? To sick to do that on our Anniversary.

	6. I can't spell some days, that's that memory block thing again. Do you have that problem too?

	7. I'm afraid when John retires he'll cut my spending off? :) I've had to much freedom to spend and buy whatever I wanted. I think twice now before I buy?

	8. We've been blessed with good health and jobs. At times my job has be more volunteering then being paid. Thank goodness John has worked at Beech for 40 + years.

	9. My volunteer experience was my resume when I started a real job after my kids graduated from High School. Was very involved with PTA in their schoolyears. Even served on the Kansas State PTA board as secreatry, and parenting chairman. Now I'm helping with my grandchild's PTA as their Newsletter editor.

	10. One of my favorite things to do is scrapbooking. Need to get my Chirstmas picture off to the printer. Going to Texas for a 4 day scrapbook retreat in January. I begining to run out of pictures ? NOT! Just need to get them organized to figure out what I need to scrapbook next.

Wow, Cathy!

Things were a little different out here in the flatlands, but we weren't untouched. I was in charge of the Zoo that day since almost everyone else in management was in St. Louis for our national zoo conference. We knew air traffic would be a serious mess with lots of people stranded. We offered free admission to anyone making an unscheduled stop, hoping to take their minds off their predicament. We had quite a few people taking us up on it, including a number of Zoo professionals trying to get home from St. Louis.

The zoo profession lost one of its most beloved people, Tim O'Sullivan, personnel manager for the Bronx Zoo, who was in the World Trade Center for a meeting. I'd had the pleasure of driving him around the Wichita area when he was out here once.

I have family in Manhattan and they were the first thing on my mind. Fortunately, they escaped any physical trauma.

They say almost everyone had some sort of connection to the 9/11 tragedy, and I believe it is true.

RE: No TV to View on 9/11

On 9/11, I was at the Pfizer Conference Center on 42nd Street, attending a United Way/Pfizer sponsored employment law training. About 75 attendees were just settling in to opening remarks when the lead Pfizer attorney interrupted, announcing that a plane had struck a tower of The WTC. Then another announcement of the second plane.

As events unfolded, we were asked to remain in the building if possible. The presenters continued presenting. Pfizer provided land-line telephone service...cell-phones were mostly down...news coverage was provided on 52" monitors in the hallways, and on wall projection screens in several conference rooms on the lower levels, where we were. People restlessly wandered in and out of the training rooms. At about 3-ish... those remaining of our group agreed to reschedule. Many people stayed in the building, several for the night.

There was no public transportation downtown and I was wearing a business suit and heels. A boutique across from the Daily News Building was open, so I stopped and bought a pair of sneakers. I wore those shoes on 9/11/2009...and often just looking at them on the shelf evokes that odd calmness that held everyone making their way down Second Avenue that afternoon, each awed by the time/space/visions being shared. We passed hospitals with staff outside waiting anxiously near the curbs, expecting to be overwhelmed by victims who never arrived.

A friend/co-worker, at whose wedding I had danced only 3 months earlier, lost her husband. Sean worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. Their child was born in March 2002. And other co-workers lost family. A receptionist lost three cousins, a caseworker lost a sister-in-law, a cook lost her brother.

My youngest son was at home and had not turned on television. He began hearing unusual sounds of a crowd and looked out of the living room window to see more people than he could count standing in the middle of Grand Street, looking down East Broadway. Just as he turned to find the remote, our building shook and he told me that the people in the street began covering their mouths and eyes in shock. The first tower had collapsed. The WTC had been the view enjoyed by four of the six apartments on each of the upper floors of my co-op, as well as a workplace. I am attaching a photo (click on My Profile) taken this morning from one of those apartments...WTC towered behind the spired municipal buildings you see at the imaginary end of the angled background street.

In addition to hiring Project Liberty professional and para-professional staff for the agency where I worked, I received FEMA and Red Cross training/certifications, assisting disabled New Yorkers and their families in the aftermath. That little boutique, as well as many other small businesses, was unable to survive the aftermath of street closings and area evacuations that followed. Several friends have moved away from the city...many citing fear of orange alerts and noxious air quality. The hole left in New York is much larger than the one between Vesey and Liberty Streets.

Thanks for the compliments. The committee is hoping to continue if the Silent Auction is successful or we receive donations from classmates. The domain name (wichitanorth64) is paid for two years and the monthly fee for the website is being paid monthly. The cost for one year is $97 or three years for $249. Doesn't it always boil down to money? As for "to keep it goin until we are all gone!" That's my goal to keep going until the good Lord says "Welcome good and faithful servant"! I'm sure there are people that would be able to do want I'm doing. ClassCreator.com has lots of help when ever we need it. Other websites have great ideas, it just takes time to get them online. Check them out. If we get another group to sign up we get $50. I've just about got all the 400+ Yearbook pictures online.

Get the word out to classmates about the website and hopefully we'll have 70% of classmates on board by the 50th reunion! Shirley Kuhns Pelz is our behind the scenes detective in locating missing classmates addresses, phone numbers, e-mails etc. If you want to help click on her name and send her a message.

After reunion, plans to get pictures of events online, more yearbook pictures, create surveys so we know what classmates want on the website. Much to do - I need to get some other work done. Talk later, keep in touch! kk

John and I were on vacation in Colorado, camping in the mountains, that September 11, 2001 in Colorado. The night before we had just listen to a CD "This was Radio". About the days of The Lone Ranger, The Shadow, and Radio Coverage of World War II.

That next day we were listening to the Radio (with very poor reception) just like in those days with no TV. We couldn't figure out why Petter Jennings was on the Radio. We finaly figure out what was going on. We went to the lodge and they had a radio on with better reception and we listen some more and was in disbelief. The next day someone went to town and brought back a paper and it was read by everyone several times. It wasn't until Friday of that week when we stopped at a rest stop and saw a TV with replays of the planes flying into the buildings. We were a week behind in our emotions from everyone else.

It's a day to remember and as bad as when President Kennedy was killed in 1963. I was in a bussiness class when we got word of his assasination.

RE: Remember these?

Karen - I went to Woodland only one year, when I was in third grade in Mrs. Doris Evans class I think (1954-55) - but I don't have any pictures of that - do you know who the teachers were in these two shots? Also, I have a few good group shots, one of John Marshall's student council, on the steps of the school (I see Cindy, Robin Carlock, and Kenneth Cinotto in it but not sure who else), and one of the North Nocturns, and a shot of an assembly for Student Council - a bunch of us onstage, but don't have a scanner. Will try to figure out how to post them...not real good with that kind of thing. Judy
